(February 26, 2009) – The best Canadian synchronized skating teams are in Oshawa vying for national titles at the 2009 BMO Skate Canada Synchronized Skating Championships but many of the top teams have already been busy this year on the international circuit.
In late January, Gold Ice junior the 2008 Canadian Junior Champions headed to Prague, Czech Republic to compete at the annual Prague Cup. The event was held in Prague from January 28 – February 1, 2009.
The reigning junior champs placed second out of 19 teams from all over the world to claim the silver. Gold Ice fell just short of the gold medal, which was won by Ice Steps from Finland.
Canada’s two top senior teams, NEXXICE and Les Suprêmes along with Les Suprêmes junior headed to France to compete at the French Cup. The event was held from February 5-7, 2009 at the Olympic Ice Skating rink in Rouen, France.
NEXXICE finished in fourth place while Les Suprêmes finished in seventh, both in the senior division. Les Suprêmes junior also just missed the podium finishing in fourth place.
Nexxice junior competed in Milan, Italy for the 15th edition of the Milan Cup, an international synchronized skating competition. The event included novice, junior and senior categories.
The event was hosted by the Federazione Italiane Sport del Ghiaccio and took place from February 13-15, 2009.
Nexxice junior had an outstanding performance to win the gold medal. They beat out all other eight teams competing from seven different countries.
