(May 25, 2007)
It was an exciting evening in Montreal last night as the 2007 Skate Canada annual convention and general meeting got underway.
The convention opening welcomed all of the delegates to Montreal for the three-day event, and featured two-time world champion and 1948 Olympic Champion Barbara Ann Scott. Scott, who was attending her first Skate Canada ACGM, addressed the delegates and held a question and answer session with CTV / TSN’s Rod Black.
Both delegates and members of the Skate Canada national team had the opportunity to meet Scott following the question and answer session.
Earlier in the day, Skate Canada 2007-2008 national team members participated in various meetings and seminars as part of the national team meeting.
On Friday, delegates were treated to an inspiring address by Olympic medallist Clara Hughes. Hughes, who won Olympic medals at both the Winter Games in speed skating and the Summer Games in cycling, wowed the audience with the story of her athletic journey, pursuit of excellence and the power of believing in one’s own abilities.
Various workshops were also held throughout the day on Friday. Topics ranged from the Cumulative Points Calculation judging system, to synchronized skating, to competitive skating.
The 2007 Skate Canada ACGM runs from May 24-26.
