Kevin Reynolds, 16, of Coquitlam, B.C., won the silver medal at the 2006 ISU Junior Grand Prix in Taipei City, Chinese Taipei this morning and set a new record for the highest score by a Canadian skater at an international junior event with a total of 169.43 points. Patrick Chan held the previous record with 168.19 points he scored at the 2006 ISU Junior World Championships. Reynolds was fourth in the short program, and first in the free skating.
Reynolds won the 2006 ISU Junior Grand Prix in Mexico City last month and is ranked ninth in the senior men’s discipline in Canada.
The other Canadian skater competing in the men’s event, Andrew Lum, 17, of Burnaby, B.C., finished in 10th place overall.
The ladies’, pair and ice dance events go on until Sunday, October 15, 2006.
