It was a weekend of fourth-place finishes for Canadian skaters at the 2006 Trophée Eric Bompard, the fourth of six events on this season’s ISU Grand Prix circuit.
Two-time Canadian Champion Joannie Rochette placed fourth in the ladies event, while pair team Elizabeth Putnam and Sean Wirtz were fourth and Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir finished fourth in the ice dance event.
In addition, in his first time competing on the ISU Grand Prix circuit, 15-year-old Patrick Chan earned a new personal best score (179.92) and was fifth overall in the men’s event. Two-time Canadian bronze medallist Shawn Sawyer was eighth in the men’s event, while ice dancers Allie Hann-McCurdy and Michael Coreno finished 10th.
In the ladies event, Rochette skated a solid short program and was third in that portion of the event. She was fifth in the free skate, which placed her fourth overall with a total score of 151.52.
Putnam and Wirtz finished fourth in both the short program and the free skate to place fourth overall with a total of 151.71 points.
After finishing fifth in the compulsory dance and eighth in the original dance, Virtue and Moir delivered a very strong free dance to place fourth in that portion of the event and fourth overall. They earned a total score of 160.12.
Hann-McCurdy and Coreno were 10th in all three portions of the event, earning a total of 132.73 points and placing 10th overall.
In the men’s event, Chan was sixth in the short program and fifth in the free skate to finish fifth overall, while Sawyer was eighth in both the short program and the free skate to finish eighth with a total of 177.51 points.

The 2006 Cup of Russia, the next event on the ISU Grand Prix circuit, will take place Nov. 23-26 in Moscow.
