Skate Canada was well-represented at the 2nd annual Mark Lowry Memorial "Drive for the Podium" Golf Tournament held Monday, June 25th, 2007 at the Stonebridge Golf Course in Ottawa.

Skate Canada Director of High Performance, Olympian and former Canadian champion Mike Slipchuk, along with Olympian and former multiple Canadian champion Jennifer Robinson, Skate Canada Corporate Partnership Services Coordinator Ryan Mussen and BMO Director of Skating Programs and Sponsorships Kelly Alguire participated in this year’s golf tournament in support of the Mark Lowry Memorial Sport Excellence Fund.

“We felt this was a good cause we wanted to support,” says Slipchuk. “It was also a good opportunity to get former athletes like Jennifer Robinson involved in our initiatives, as well as our sponsors with the presence of Kelly Alguire from BMO.”

Mark, who died of pancreatic cancer in October of 2005, believed that sport could make a difference. All proceeds of the golf tournament go towards the Mark Lowry Memorial Sport Excellence Fund which provides essential funding for amateur athletes and coaches in their quest for high performance excellence. $31,000 was raised at this year’s golf tournament.
