(January 8, 2010) – Skate Canada coaches will participate in a National Coach Apprenticeship Program at the 2010 BMO Canadian Figure Skating Championships in London, ON in January.

This program enables coaches in the competitive stream, who have not yet attended a national championships with their skaters, an opportunity to become better equipped as the coach, and to prepare their athletes.

The sessions will be facilitated by World and Olympic coach, Michelle Leigh. Guest presenters include Manon Perron, Richard Gauthier, Joanne Mcleod, Doug Leigh and 2008 World Champion Jeff Buttle.

A wide variety of topics and discussions will be covered on-site. The main focus is on performance preparation for competitive athletes.  The sessions include the observation of practices and events, competition planning (pre-comp, comp and post-comp), mental and physical preparation, strategies and tactics using CPC, travel logistics, planning on-site practices, etc.

Skate Canada is proud to support our coaches at all levels and looks forward to bringing more learning opportunities through these types of coach-driven initiatives.  Please contact coaching@skatecanada.ca for more information.
