(January 13, 2010) – The novice ice dance kicked off the four day event with the compulsory dance. Fans at the Western Fair Sports Centre in London, Ontario got to see new young talent compete as they strived for national titles.
“It’s great to see new skaters come up from the sections. The novice event is always a great chance for us to access new talent,” said William Thompson, Skate Canada CEO.
After the compulsory dance, it was Kelly Oliveira and Jordan Hockley of Central Ontario who lead the way with 28.26 points. Following close behind was Quebec skaters Victoria Hasegawa and Connor Hasegawa with 26.86 points and in third was Baily Carrroll and Peter Gerber from Central Ontario with 25.70 points.
“The ice felt good, kind of nervous out there, but also confident because we had trained so hard for this. We felt prepared coming into this competition, I mean it’s nationals,” said Kelly Oliveira.
Tuesday the junior events will begin along with more novice events.
