(December 28, 2009) – Two of Canada’s top figure skating coaches will carry the Olympic Torch as it continues its journey through Ontario.  Both have coached many different skaters at the Olympic Games, over two decades. Michelle Leigh, who has been rinkside at Olympic Games with double Olympic medalist Elvis Stojko, and Canadian champion Jennifer Robinson has had an outstanding career as a coach. Michelle teaches at the Mariposa School of Skating in Barrie, Ontario and has been very involved in training other coaches as well.  Michelle will carry the torch on December 29th in Cookstown, Ontario.

The next day on December 30th, Doug Leigh, who founded the Mariposa School of Skating in Barrie, will carry the torch in Huntsville, Ontario.  Leigh’s Olympic coaching career includes six Olympic Winter Games.  He coached Canada’s Brian Orser to silver medals in 1984 in Sarajevo and again in 1988 in Calgary.  His many other Olympic-level skaters include two-time Olympic medalist and three-time world champion Elvis Stojko as well as 26 other Canadian champions and 17 international champions.
