(March 23, 2009) - Competitors from around the world landed in L.A. over the weekend to prepare to compete for world titles in the men’s, ladies, pair and ice dance disciplines. The ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2009 began on Sunday, March 22 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. The event kicked off with the official practices.
“The practices looked great. There is definitely going to be some tough competition in every discipline,” said Mike Slipchuk, Skate Canada Director High Performance. “Our Canadian team is prepared and ready to show the world what Canadian figure skating is capable of. Skating fans in Los Angeles are in for a week of outstanding skating.”
Tuesday will be the official start of competition. Compulsory dance will start the day followed by the opening ceremonies and then the pair short program.
