(January 23, 2009) – Skate Canada alumni Jamie Salé and David Pelletier will join four other 2009 entries into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame. The announcement was made by the Canadian Olympic Committee.
Salé and Pelletier teamed up in 1998 to form one of Canada’s most loved pair teams. In 2002 they captured gold at the Salt Lake City Olympic Winter Games after a much publicized judging scandal. The pair team quickly became know as “Canadian Sweethearts” and their free program, skated to the music of Love Story, became an instant signature piece.
In addition to their Olympic title, Salé and Pelletier were crowned the 2001 World Pair Champions and were three-time Canadian Pair Champions (2000, 2001, 2002). Salé and Pelletier were also awarded the Lou Marsh Trophy as Canada’s top athletes in 2001 and were inducted into the Skate Canada Hall of Fame in 2006.
They will be officially induced on March 26, 2009 at the 2009 Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame Gala Dinner & Induction Ceremony in Vancouver, B.C.
Congratulations to both Jamie and David on this prestigious honour!
