Wecome to the Medicine Hat Skating Club!

In 1959, Mrs. Arlene Service called a meeeting if parents and interested skaters in the old Arena.  As a result, the Medicine Hat Figure Skating Club re-intituted with Doris Kampala (Anderson) as President, Donna Crown as Secretary, and Penny Rollefstad as Treasurer.

This proved to be avery interesting experience for the pro, Arlene Service, and one of the parents, Loren Arelis.  Although they hadno funds or ideas about costumes, the parents chipped together and with the help of local business donations, presented the first Carnival in 1961. the carnival was humorously named the Crepe paper Carnival, as most of the costumes were made from crepe paper.  Interestingly enough, the skaters performed to a packed house of some 3000 people.

The Executive remained unchanged for the 1960/1961 season.

The first test day was held in in 1961 with George Blunden, Gordon barrett and Mrs. Campbell of Calgary serving as judges.  The year 1969 witnessed the Club being registered with the Societies Act and it has rtemianed so ever since.

In 1971, the Club held it's first annual Summer School , attracting skaters from as far away as Ontario, Quebec, and the United States.

In 1980, the Club participated in a skater exchange with Boloeil, Quebec.  The guests skated in our Carnival and ours in theirs.

The Medicine Hat Figure Skating Club has successfully hosted many notable compettitons such as Sub-Sectionals, Sectionals, Alberta Winter Games, as well as many Club and Interclub competitions, and shared hosting teh Western Canadian Figure Skating Championships in 1995.

In 1996, the name was changed to the Medicine Hat Skating Club inorder to better reflect the programs supported by the Club and the by-laws were updated to reflect current trends in business practice.
