2008 BMO Skate Canada Synchronized Skating Championships glide into second day
(February 28, 2008 - OTTAWA, ON) – The timing seems to be just right for the Ilderton Classic Jets, a synchronized skating team from the Ilderton Skating Club. The team is currently competing in the adult festival division at the 2008 BMO Skate Canada Synchronized Skating Championships, taking place February 28 - March 2, in Chilliwack, B.C. The team is currently sitting in first place after the first free program with a score of 24.76. Following in a close second, is Team Velocity, from the Woodstock FSC, with 22.69. In third place is Mississauga Ice Precise, from the Mississauga Skating Club, with 22.52. The adult festival teams will skate again Friday to determine this year’s champion. The festival novice division is also shaping up to be a tight race. Ice X-Cel, from the Lower Mainland Synchronized Skating Club, is currently holding onto the lead with a first free program score of 22.46. However, Mystic Motion, from the Mississauga Figure Skating Club, scored 20.63 and the Ilderton Precisionnaires, from the Ilderton Skating Club, scored 20.23 to tail close behind in second and third respectively. The festival novice competition will continue Friday. The festival junior division also kicked off the competition on the first day of the event. Les Pirouettes, from Laval CPA, held on to first place after the first free program with a score of 35.03. Right behind them in second place is Ice E-Motion, from the Mississauga Skating Club, who scored 34.87. Sitting in third place is Ice Image, from the Burlington Skating Club, who scored 34.59. The junior festival teams will continue the competition on Friday afternoon when they are scheduled to skate their second free skate. Friday will see the end of competition for the festival adult, novice and junior divisions, but it will be the start of the competition for the competitive junior and senior teams. On Saturday, the festival open short program will take place, the novice and adult competitive teams will skate their first free program and the junior and senior competitive teams will skate their free programs. The competition will conclude on Sunday, March 2, with the festival open free programs and the novice and adult competitive second free skate.
