Skating fans delighted as Québec City kicks off figure skating week
Figure skating week in Québec City kicked off yesterday with the opening of Place d’Youville. Close to 200 people attended the Sunday activities, which lasted from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. La troupe du patin libre, directed by Alexandre Hamel, presented a great skating performance which got the crowd going. At the end of the show, Alexander included a skating number that included the spectators which was very well received.
Québec City will celebrate figure skating week October 14-20, 2007. In collaboration with the City, Skate Canada is presenting a variety of skating activities each day at Place d’Youville to involve the community. In addition, Skate Canada is holding a skate drive and asking people to donate gently used skates to Québec en Forme who will distribute them to youngsters 4-12 years old who need them. Other highlights include a daily draw for two tickets for the Saturday night events at the HomeSense Skate Canada International featuring international figure skating stars, at the Colisée Pepsi, November 1 – 4 and an autograph session featuring three-time Canadian Champion, Joannie Rochette and Canadian bronze medalist Shawn Sawyer.

Skate Canada, the national governing body responsible for the development and administration of figure skating in Canada, is the largest figure skating association in the world. With skating programs for athletes of all ages, offered at 1326 clubs across the country, Skate Canada is an association dedicated to providing every Canadian the opportunity to experience the passion, spirit and triumph of skating.
