Quebec City to host the 2007 HomeSense Skate Canada International

(November 5, 2006 - Ottawa, ON) - Skate Canada announced today that Quebec City will host the 2007 HomeSense Skate Canada International.

The event will take place Nov. 1 - 4, 2007 at the Colisée Pepsi.

"Skate Canada is pleased to bring this major international event to Quebec City," said William Thompson, Skate Canada CEO. "The City of Quebec has a strong figure skating community, as well as an excellent volunteer base. This will be a great opportunity to see some of the world's best skaters compete on the International Skating Union Grand Prix circuit."

"When we received confirmation that the 2007 HomeSense Skate Canada International would be held in Quebec City, we jumped for joy," said Pierre Labrie, Director of Office du Tourisme de Quebec. "It was an undertaking that took a lot of energy to develop and especially required a lot of cooperation between the main partners in Quebec City, including the Office du tourisme, la Ville du Quebec and ExpoCité.

This event was last held in Quebec City in 2002. The economic impact is anticipated to be approximately $4 million.

Skate Canada International is the second of six competitions in the yearly ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating series. The other events take place in the United States, China, France, Russia and Japan. Skaters are awarded points based on their placements in the series' events. The top-six men and ladies and the top-six pair and ice dance teams qualify for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final.

Skate Canada, the national governing body responsible for the development and administration of figure skating in Canada, is the largest figure skating association in the world. With skating programs for athletes of all ages, offered at 1326 clubs across the country, Skate Canada is an association dedicated to providing every Canadian the opportunity to experience the passion, spirit and triumph of skating.
