Skate Canada announces partnership with Roots Canada

(October 29, 2003 - Mississauga, ON) - At a press conference today, Skate Canada was pleased to announce the signing of a sponsorship partnership with Roots Canada.

"Skate Canada is very excited to welcome Roots Canada as our newest national sponsor," said Pam Coburn, Skate Canada CEO. "We hope to see the partnership continue to expand well into the future."

The agreement, which is effective immediately and runs until 2006, names Roots Canada as the official clothing supplier to Canada's National Figure Skating Teams. In consultation from Skate Canada's National Teams department, Roots Canada has designed the official clothing outfits for the 2003-2004 National Team, Junior National Team and the National Synchronized Skating Team. The Junior National Team's outfit consists of a authentic Roots athletic track suit and outer jacket, and the National Team will be outfitted in a Roots track suit, outer jacket and Roots long sleeve athletic T-shirt.

Established in 1973, Roots has evolved into an internationally recognized lifestyle brand. Roots, which started as a single store with a single product, now has over 200 stores internationally. This privately held company has state-of the-art production facilities in Toronto, numerous licensees and employs thousands of people globally.

Roots Canada joins Skate Canada's national sponsor family, which includes principle partners CTV/TSN, title sponsors BMO Financial Group and MasterCard Canada, as well as Air Canada, Communications Canada, Canadian Heritage, Centrum Vitamins, Cover Girl (Procter & Gamble Canada Inc.), Goody Products Inc., Hershey Canada and Movado Watches.

Skate Canada, the national governing body responsible for the development and administration of figure skating in Canada, is the largest figure skating association in the world. With skating programs for athletes of all ages, offered at 1,475 clubs and schools across the country, Skate Canada is an association dedicated to providing every Canadian the opportunity to experience the passion, spirit and triumph of skating. Primarily self-supporting, Skate Canada is able to provide direct athlete funding, which reaches approximately 1 in 7 competitive athletes and 1 in 3 synchronized skating teams each year through various training and performance-related grants.
