Buttle on top of the World at 2008 ISU World Figure Skating Championships

Jeff Buttle, 25, of Smooth Rock Falls, Ont., won the Gold Medal at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships in Gothenburg Sweden. Buttle put on a spectacular performance to take the title. He was first after the short program with 82.10 points and then today he held on to first place scoring 163.07 in the free skate for a grand total of 245.17.
Following Buttle in second place with 231.22 points was Brian Joubert of France the 2007 World Champion. In third was American Johnny Weir with 221.84.
Teammate Patrick Chan, 17, of Toronto, Ont., finished in ninth place. Chan scored 72.81 in the short and 130.74 in the free for a total of 203.55.
Competition ended today with Canada taking home three medal in three different disciplines. Jeff Buttle is the ISU 2008 World Men’s Figure Skating Champion, Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir are the ISU 2008 World Ice Dance Figure Skating Silver Medalists and Jessica Dubé and Bryce Davison the ISU 2008 World Pair Figure Skating Bronze Medalists.
