The 2006 HomeSense Skate Canada International
will take place November 2-5, 2006 at the Save-on-Foods Memorial
Centre in Victoria, British Columbia. Fans can expect a strong competition
in each of the four disciplines.
The event features four days of exciting competition in ladies
and men’s singles, pairs and ice dancing, as well as an exhibition
of champions. The competition will attract more than 40 world-class
figure skating athletes from approximately 18 nations.
HomeSense Skate Canada International is the second of six competitions
in the yearly International Skating Union’s (ISU) Grand Prix
of Figure Skating series. The other events take place in the United
States, China, France, Russia and Japan. Skaters are awarded points
based on their placements in the series’ events. The top-six
men and ladies and the top-six pair and ice dance teams qualify
for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final, which will take
place in St. Petersburg, Russia, December 14-17, 2006.
Prize money for the qualification events, including the 2006 HomeSense
Skate Canada International, in US funds is $18,000 (1st); $13,000
(2nd); $9,000 (3rd); $3,000 (4th); and $2,000 (5th).
