A new name and new format The 2008 BMO Canadian Figure Skating Championships promises to be an unforgettable event. Approximately 150 of Canada’s best skaters are headed to Vancouver, B.C., to compete in the 2008 BMO Canadian Figure Skating Championships January 16-20 at the Pacific National Exhibition. The results at this event will determine who will represent Canada at the next ISU World Figure Skating Championships, ISU Four Continents Championships and ISU World Junior Championships. The event takes place at the Pacific National Exhibition over seven days starting with open practices on Monday. Athletes have qualified to compete at the national championships through the BMO Skate Canada Western and Eastern Challenges. After changing its name from BMO Financial Group Canadian Championships to BMO Canadian Figure Skating Championships, another significant change will be noticeable at this year’s national championships with the start orders for the senior short programs (or compulsory dance) and free skates (or free dance). Competitors will skate the short program in reverse order of placement on last year’s event. Skaters who did not record a placement at last year’s championships will participate in a random draw to determine the start order. For the free skates (or free dance), the competitors will skate in reverse order from the short program results (or combined compulsory and original dance results). This means that the skater who is in first-place after the short program will be the last to skate the free skate. Victor Kraatz to Host the 2007 BMO Community Skate in Vancouver BMO Financial Group and Skate Canada invite friends, family, skating enthusiasts, media representatives and the general public to lace up their skates and participate in the 2007 BMO Community Skate on November 17th, at the Pacific Coliseum at the PNE.
