Skate Canada: Alberta – NWT/Nunavut is currently accepting applications for the following position: Coordinator, Finance and Skating Programs

Reports to the Executive Director of Skate Canada: Alberta – NWT/Nunavut for finance, accounting, pay and benefit matters and to the Manager, Member Services Skate Canada: Alberta-NWT/Nunavut for skating programs matters all in accordance with the policy and strategic direction set by the Board of Directors. Core responsibilities include, but, are not limited to:

Finance, Office Bookkeeping, Pay and Benefits:

  • Perform the standard monthly and yearly accounting cycle functions including the processing of entries and the preparation of reconciliations, reports and documentation.
  • Play a key role in the annual budgeting process.
  • Support key stakeholders by providing information or assistance with the items such as event financials, grant proposals or sponsorship agreements.
  • Prepare standardized or regulatory reports relating to gaming, grants, sponsorship, government departments, agencies or foundations for approval by the Executive Director.
  • Prepare semi-monthly payroll, reconcile and remit deductions.
  • Prepare/coordinate payroll and benefits forms relating to set up of new employees and changes to status.

Skating Programs:

  • Promote all Skating Programs to Skate Canada: Alberta-NWT/Nunavut clubs, membership, partners, sponsors and the general public to facilitate consistent Skating Programs growth and adherence to minimum operating standards.
  • Serve as the Staff Resource to the Skating Programs Committee (which includes the Adult Skating, Recreation, Special Olympics and Synchronized Skating Subcommittees) by preparing and distributing agendas and minutes and other documents as well as assisting with budgets, policy development and implementation and programming initiatives such as clinics and seminars.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma supplemented by post-secondary education in business, sport management or a related field.
  • 2-3 years work experience in bookkeeping and sport coordination with a provincial and/or national sport organization.
  • Knowledge of figure skating and experience working with volunteer board of directors and committees.
  • Experience with the MS Office standard programs and QuickBooks/Simply Accounting Software.
  • Strong team player with excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to deal with multiple priorities as well as confidential information and issues.
