(July 28, 2009) – The Mariposa School of Skating’s 20th annual charity gala will take place Thursday August 6, 2009 at 7 pm at the Barrie Molson Centre in Barrie, Ont. Proceeds from this year’s gala will go to the RVH Rotary House and the future Simcoe-Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre.
As always, the 2009 gala will include many skaters that currently train at Mariposa in Barrie, including 2008 BMO Canadian Pair Champions Anabelle Langlois and Cody Hay and Skate Canada Senior National Team members Monica Pisotta and Michael Stewart. Alumni from the Mariposa School of Skating will also participate in this year’s gala including 2008 ISU World Champion Jeffrey Buttle, six-time Canadian Champion Jennifer Robinson and 2007 Canadian silver medalist Christopher Mabee.
Other notable performers include World silver medalist Joannie Rochette, 2002 Olympic Pair Champions Jamie Salé and David Pelletier, five-time Canadian Ice Dance Champions Marie-France Dubreil and Patrice Lauzon and the 2009 ISU World Synchronized Skating Champions NEXXICE.
Since 1990, this event has raised over $1 million. All funds were directed to local charity projects that are supported by the Rotary Club of Barrie-Huronia and the Mariposa School of Skating.
Tickets are still available! General admission is $35 while children (under 12) and seniors (60 over) can get in for just $20. Tickets can be purchased through ticketmaster or at the Barrie Molson Centre box office.
