(March 25, 2010) – Wednesday marked day two of competition at the 2010 ISU World Figure Skating Championships in Torino, Italy. The men began the day with their short programs. Olympic silver medalist Daisuke Takahashi of Japan leads the group with 89.30 points. Canadian Champion Patrick Chan is holding down second spot with 87.80 points and Frenchman Brian Joubert is following close behind in third with 87.70 points. “This was the short program I wanted to finish my season with,” said Patrick Chan. “It went by really quick, just the way I wanted it to, and I`m excited to compete against such a close competitive field tomorrow.” Canadian Kevin Reynolds is in 14th with 71.20 points after his first performance at the senior world championships. After landing his quad/triple combination in the short program, Kevin Reynolds said, “This was a really good start. I could feel the energy from the audience when I landed that combination, and I`m looking forward to skating my free program even though it`s very technically demanding.” The men will conclude with their free programs on Thursday night. After skating their short program on Tuesday night the pair teams closed the evening with their free programs. China’s Qing Pang and Jian Tong won the gold medal after winning both the short and free programs. They scored 136.11 in the free for a grand total of 211.39. German Champions Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy won the silver after scoring 135.22 in the free for a total score of 204.74.Yuko Kavaguti and Alexander Smirnov of Russia dropped from second to third after the free to win the bronze medal. They scored 130.67 in the free for a total combined score of 203.79. Canadian Champions Jessica Dubé and Bryce Davison moved up a couple of positions to finish in sixth place after scoring 117.71 in the free for a total score of 177.07. Anabelle Langlois and Cody Hay also moved up in the standings after their free. They scored 100.32 to finish in 10th spot with 154.72 points. “Although it wasn`t perfect, this was much better than the short. It was the best international performance we’ve done all year, and we feel good about finishing the season on that note,” said Jessica Dubé. Davison caught his blade in his pant leg on their final spin, which caused them to lose several points. “It was a minor error, which ended up costing us points because I couldn’t do the change of foot on the spin,” he explained.
