OTTAWA, ON - Skate Sarnia formally known as the Sarnia Figure Skating Club will celebrate their 60th year as a club, 1948-2008. Skate Sarnia will begin the celebrations on March 29th, 2008 with two theme shows entitled, “Let’s Skate Down Memory Lane”. The first show will be at 2:00 pm and the second will follow at 7:00 pm. The show will include an alumni number with many former club skaters.
The shows will star many former alumni, including former member Donald Jackson, who will act as the guest skater in the carnival. Donald and his partner Olivia Jones placed fourth at the 2008 BMO Canadian Figure Skating Championship in the junior pair’s discipline. In 2007 the pair took home gold at the ISU Junior Grand Prix in Lake Placid, USA.
Club President, Barb Lewis looks forward to the carnival being extra special.
"This is not just another Carnival, although there is something memorable every year at carnival time, this year is extra special, it's more like a reunion and it will be wonderful to see some old friends and reminisce about cherished memories as well as catch up on everyone's life today," said Lewis.
The celebrations will conclude with an Alumni Dance at the Dante Club in Sarnia on April 5th, 2008. The dance will include live entertainment. The fun will jump off at 8:00 pm.
Other club members that have gone on to Nationals were Sherri Inch, Sabrina Timmington, Kelly Doohan, Kristi Metzler-Rowe (JR Canadians), Julie Borek, Greg Augi, Shayne Nickels, Lance Marcy, Deborah Smith, Janice Morphew, Lyn Miller, Robert McCrabb, Judy Clawson, Naomi Garton and Pairs Nancy Brooks & Susan Herriott, Faye Lightfoot & Jackie Milner, Ilene & Robert Mathers, Susan Barker & Janie Wilson, Peggy Williams & Shayne Nickels.
This years carnival will also be in special memory and dedication to Rose Hodgson, first woman president of Skate Sarnia, Carol Chichka, club coach and Ilene Mathers, one of the founders of Skate Sarnia.
