OTTAWA, ON - The Coaching Association of Canada’s Women in Coaching program will be hosting its annual National Coach Workshop, March 28-30, 2008, at the Briars Resort, Lake Simcoe, Ont. Skate Canada is pleased to announce the nomination for Carol Lane, a NCCP Level 4 certified ice dance coach, has been accepted. Lane, who has demonstrated incredible talent and success as a coach, has been a Skate Canada professional coaching member for the past 24 years.

Lane and her team of coaches at the Ice Dance Elite Scarboro Figure Skating Club have had a remarkable season. Most recently they coached the Canadian ice dance team of Vanessa Crone and Paul Poirier to a silver medal at the 2008 ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, which was held February 25–March 2, 2008. The team, who successfully captured gold at two Junior Grand Prix events this season, also placed fourth at their first Senior National Championships in Vancouver of this year.

In addition, Lane and her dance teams posted impressive results in all categories of national competition this season. Kharis Ralph and Asher Hill won gold in Junior Dance, Olivia Nicole Martins and Alvin Chau won gold in Novice Dance, Abby Carswell and Frederick Cheng won gold in Pre-Novice Dance, and Mackenzie Bent and Garrett Mackeen won silver in Juvenile Dance.

Lane will join the top women coaches from across the country for the weekend workshop. The National Coach Workshop will be facilitated by Dr. Dru Marshall – Deputy Provost at the University of Alberta, and a strong contributor to the development of women’s sport in Canada.
