OTTAWA, ON - Skate Canada would like to congratulate the Orono Figure Skating Club, who is set to celebrate its 60th Anniversary on March 29, 2008. To commemorate the occasion, the Ontario based club plans on hosting a Carnival to showcase the local figure skating talent.

The 60th Anniversary Carnival will present two shows at 1:30pm and 7:00pm. In between the shows there will be an open house in the club’s Community Room. The open house will provide an opportunity for current and past members of the club and the local community to view the historical memorabilia collected over the years. A great time to reflect on Orono Figure Skating Club’s long history, the open house will also provide time for individuals attending the festivities to visit and catch up with past skaters, coaches and volunteers.

This is a significant milestone for the club, who was also honored in 2007 with an induction into the Clarington Sports Hall of Fame. The club has not only endured a long history in the sport, but it has also produced a number of elite level skaters. Most notably, alumni from the Orono Figure Skating Club include national competitors Stephanie Sharp (Hood) in 1983, Scott Maybee in the 1980s, and Adam Colville who competed in singles and in pairs with partner Kaitlyn Colville at the Junior Nationals in 1997-1998.

Congratulations again to the Orono Figure Skating Club whose dedication to the sport is sure to positively impact figure skating in the years to come!
