36 of the 88 figure skating volunteers at the 1988 Olympic Winter Games in Calgary gathered on Sunday, April 13, 2008 at the Olympic Hall of Fame in the Canada Olympic Park in Calgary to commemorate the 20th anniversary of that sporting event. Skate Canada’s CEO William Thompson attended this 20th anniversary celebration.

“This was the occasion to see old friends, to laugh and remember the” Best Ever” figure skating event we managed to produce,” says Joyce Hisey, who was the figure skating Chairman at the Olympic Games in 1988.

A video was shown to relive the performances of all the Canadian skaters competing in 1988 and to remember other Canadian Olympians featured in the Closing Ceremonies was the special treat of the evening!

Canada won five medals at the 1988 Olympic Games in Calgary, three of which were in figure skating: Elizabeth Manley and Brian Orser both won silver in singles and Tracy Wilson and Rob McCall won bronze in ice dance.
