Elvis Stojko Athlete Two Olympic silver medals, three world championship titles, and seven Canadian championships are testaments to the longevity and calibre of Elvis Stojko's skating career. During his more than 10 years of competing at the international level he pushed the technical boundaries of the sport, becoming the first athlete to complete a quadruple jump combination in world competition in 1991. At the 1997 Champions Series Final in Hamilton he became the first athlete to successfully complete a quadruple/triple jump combination. The Richmond Hill, Ontario native was twice awarded the Norton H. Crowe Award for Canadian Male Athlete of the Year and in 1994 received the Lionel Conacher Award for Athlete of the Year by the Canadian Press. His tremendous athleticism was matched by an incomparable inner strength and focus, and his love of the martial arts was often evident in his skating programs. His ability to compete, despite debilitating injuries, was a key to his dominance on the world stage. At his third Winter Olympic Games in Nagano in 1998, Elvis battled devastating injuries to complete his program and win the silver medal. His tremendous courage under such adversity, and his indomitable spirit and dedication to the pursuit of excellence, was recognized by the Governor General of Canada with the Meritorious Service Cross. Elvis is a great athlete, a great sportsman, a great humanitarian, a great role model and a tremendous ambassador for the sport of figure skating. Inducted into the Skate Canada Hall of Fame in 2004.
