(March 28, 2010) – The ladies free program was the last event of the competition. Canadian Cynthia Phaneuf performed another strong program to keep her goal of a top-ten placement, she placed fifth. Phaneuf scored 118.04, a season’s best in the free for a total score of 177.54. "A long time ago, I failed to make a flawless long program", said Cynthia. "Because of how I trained during the workout, I knew I could run a long program very uniform. My goal was to do my best and that's what I did." Winning the goal medal was Olympic silver medalist Mao Asada of Japan with a total of 197.58 points and 129.50 in the free. Olympic Champion Yu-Na Kim won the silver with a free score of 130.49 for a total score of 190.79 points. Finland’s Laura Lepisto won the bronze with 178.62 points and 114.32 in the free. Phaneuf securing a top-ten placement means Canada will keep the two entries for next year’s championships. Sunday will end the event with the exhibition gala.
