Quesnel FSC is the Show it Off for Skate Canada Contest Winner

VICTORIA, B.C. – After over 50 submissions from Skate Canada clubs and skating schools across the country the Quesnel Figure Skating Club from Skate Canada British Columbia/Yukon is the grand prize winner of the Show it Off for Skate Canada Contest. The club’s video submission proved that the entire community of the interior BC town has embraced Skate Canada’s new logo. The Quesnel FSC won a one-day group seminar with skating legend Kurt Browning.

"I'm still shaking over the great news. We can hardly believe it. Our campaign was Skate Canada Lives Here and it really does live here at the Quesnel Figure Skating Club. Our club gathered for a dessert night to watch the BMO Canadian Figure Skating Championships and everyone, especially the skaters, was so excited when it was announced that we won the Show it Off for Skate Canada contest" said Sharon Chow, Quesnel FSC coach.

Coming in second place and also winning the fan favourite award with over 6,000 votes is the Heather FSC from Skate Canada Nova Scotia, located in the town of New Glasgow. Their creative video won them a national team athlete appearance at their club gala and the Sony HD Rinkside Video Pack, which includes a new Sony television and video camera.

The winners were announced on Sunday, January 23rd at 2011 BMO Canadian Figure Skating Championships in Victoria, B.C., during the exhibition gala in front of a live crowd of nearly 5,000 fans.

A jury of judges, made up of Skate Canada CEO William Thompson, Skate Canada President Benoît Lavoie and 2008 World Champion Jeff Buttle selected the first and second place entries based on a predetermined set of qualifications, including impact, innovation and viewing impressions. The Sony HD Rinkside Video Pack prize was awarded to the entry that received the most online votes and became the ultimate fan favourite.

Other honourable mentions go to the Sherwood Parkdale Skating Club in Charlottetown, P.E.I., Port Credit Figure Skating Club in Mississauga, Ont., and the London Skating Club in London, Ont.
