(January 28, 2010) – Two of Canada's figure skaters from the 1980s proudly carried the Olympic Torch in BC as it made its way closer to Vancouver.  On January 27th, both Melinda Kunhegi and Michael Farrington were torch bearers.  Melinda, orginally from Guelph, Ontario, competed in the pair discipline in the early part of the 1980s.  With her partner Lyndon Johnston, she was the silver medalist at the Canadian national championships twice, in 1984 and 1985.  They competed in the 1984 Olympic Winter Game and finished 12th.  The next year, the duo had a fifth place finish at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships.  Melinda carried the torch in Sorrento, BC.

Barrie, Ontario native Michael Farrington competed at the 1988 Olympic Winter Games in ice dance with his partner Melanie Cole.  The bronze medalists at the national championships that year finished 16th at the games in Calgary, Alberta and then 15th at the 1988 ISU World Figure Skating Championships.  Michael carried the torch in Kamloops, BC.
