(February 23, 2010) – Patrick Chan skated a beautiful free skate to place fifth at the men’s event in Vancouver. The Pacific Coliseum was full of Canadian fans who cheered for Chan throughout his entire performance to music from The Phantom of the Opera. Chan skated a clean program other than a mistake on his triple axel.

Evan Lysacek from the United States stole the show with an outstanding free skate to put him ahead of Evgeni Plushenko of Russia. Plushenko, the ‘quad king’ as he is called by media executed many jumps in his free skate but it was not enough for the panel to award him his second Olympic gold medal. Daisuke Takahashi from Japan received the bronze.

Canada’s Vaughn Chipeur placed 23rd in his first Olympics.

Skate Canada congratulates our men on their first Olympic experience.
