(February 22, 2010 - Vancouver, BC) – On behalf of Skate Canada, and the Rochette family, we would like to thank the many people, companies and organizations for the outpouring of support and words of encouragement from people across the country and around the world.  In particular the tremendous assistance from the Canadian Olympic Committee when we first learned of the sad passing of Thérèse Rochette, the mother of figure skater Joannie Rochette was deeply appreciated.   So many people have stepped up to offer help, including our national sponsor Bank of Montreal, and many of the Olympic partners, including Bell and Petro-Canada. The athletes here, our colleagues in the sport community and the international skating family have also offered deep care and concern for the Rochette family and for our other team members who are here and those still competing.  We are all deeply touched by the kindness, care and concern, and wish to thank everyone for their contributions.

Skate Canada fully supports Joannie in her decision to continue competing at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, and extend our sincere condolences to Joannie, her father Normand, and her family and friends.
