Skate Canada congratulates Ted Barton on his induction into the BC Sports Hall of Fame in the builder category.  The 2008 Banquet of Champions induction ceremony took place Thursday, May 29, 2008 at the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Barton, of West Vancouver, has been the Executive Director of Skate Canada – BC/Yukon since 1991 where he is deeply involved with the marketing aspect of skating in the province. He was hired as a part-time Technical Director from 1983 to 1991. He created the Skate Canada Centre of Excellence at Burnaby Eight Rinks and more recently served on the ISU commission that developed a new judging system.

"I feel very strongly that it was not only me who was inducted last night but all those Board Members and staff who I have worked with me for the past 25 years. In addition to all the Skate Canada National and ISU colleagues who I have been blessed to work for and with through the years. It is a remarkable honour," says Barton.

The BC Sports Hall of Fame is a non-profit, self-sustaining society that was founded in 1966 by the late Eric Whitehead and a group of sports-minded individuals. The goal was to establish a permanent tribute honouring BC's outstanding athletes, teams and builders of sport. Each year the BC Sports Hall of Fame hosts a Banquet of Champions in which inductees are recognized as outstanding athletes, teams or individuals for their achievements and service to sport and sport history in British Columbia.
