Jeremy accepts his World Chinese Entrepreneurs Scholarship Special Talent Award from one of the sponsors, Mr. Johnny Fong

2007 Canadian Junior Men Champion Jeremy Ten, of Vancouver, BC, received a World Chinese Entrepreneurs Scholarship Special Talent Award at a special ceremony in December.

This program, established by the Chinese Community, recognizes and encourages outstanding young achievers and is open to all high school and university students. There were 18 recipients for the three categories of awards, the Academic and Community Service and Leadership Award, the Special Talent Award and the Entrepreneurial Spirit Award.

Jeremy was also the recipient of the BC Sports Hall of Fame Jack Farley Youth Sports Achievement Award for 2007. This award was presented to the top female and top male athletes in Grade 12 in all of BC.

“We are very proud of him and the recognition means a lot to him and to all hard working students and athletes,” says Jeremy’s father Francis Ten.

Jeremy was also chosen by Skate Canada – BC/Yukon to be the recipient of the Premier’s Athletic Award for 2007. The Premier’s Athletic Awards recognize the top male and female athletes from 43 sports participating in the BC Athlete Assistance Program. This selection is based on outstanding performances and other achievements in sports.

“Skate Canada – BC/Yukon felt that Jeremy was the male athlete that had demonstrated the skills and ability, as shown by his competitive record, to earn the right to be presented with this award,” said Skate Canada – BC/Yukon’s Chairman Gail Weber. In addition to the national junior title, Jeremy also won a bronze medal at the Junior grand Prix event in Sofia, Bulgaria in the fall.

The Premier’s Athletic Awards and Reception are hosted annually and Jeremy’s photo and athletic achievements are now displayed on a commemorative plaque at the BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum for a year.

The 18-year-old skater placed 11th at the 2008 BMO Canadian Figure Skating Championships, his first year competing at the Senior level. He is headed to Sofia, Bulgaria, February 25 – March 2, 2008 to compete in the ISU Junior World Figure Skating Championships.
