It was a successful outing for Canadian skaters competing at the 2004 Triglav Trophy.
Canadian skaters won a total of four medals at the event, which was held April 14-18 in Jesenice, Slovenia.
Taking home the gold medal in the Novice Ladies event was Amanda Valentine. The 13-year-old Ottawa native, who won the gold medal in the Novice Ladies event at the 2004 BMO Financial Group Skate Canada Junior Nationals in Nepean, Ont. in February, placed third in the short program and first in the free skate to place first overall.
Thirteen-year-old Natalie Kwong, of Richmond Hill, Ont., placed fourth in the Novice Ladies event. Kwong, the 2004 Canadian Pre-Novice Ladies Champion, placed fourth in the short program and third in the free skate to finish in fourth-place overall.
Winning the silver medal in the Novice Men’s event was Jeremy Ten. Ten, 15, of Vancouver, who captured the gold medal in the Pre-Novice Men’s event at the 2004 BMO Financial Group Skate Canada Junior Nationals, was standing in first after the short program and placed third in the free skate to finish second overall.
Also taking home a silver medal from the event was the pair team of Michelle Gorczyca and Robert Luciani. Gorczyca, 13, of Oakville, Ont., and Luciani, 20, of Woodbridge, Ont., placed second in both the short program and the free skate to win the silver medal in the Junior Pair event. The duo won the silver medal in the Novice Pair event at the 2004 BMO Financial Group Skate Canada Junior Nationals.
Capturing the bronze medal in the Junior Men’s event was Dylan Moscovitch. Moscovitch, 19, of Toronto, who won the silver medal in the Junior Men’s event at the 2004 BMO Financial Group Canadian Championships in Edmonton in January, placed third in both the short program and the free skate to finish in third-place overall.
The two Canadian entries in the Junior Ladies event, Erin Scherrer and Mylene Brodeur, placed sixth and 12th, respectively. Scherrer, 16, a Waterloo native who won the bronze medal in the Junior Ladies event at the 2004 BMO Financial Group Canadian Championships, finished third in the short program and seventh in the free skate to place sixth overall.
Brodeur, 17, of St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que., who placed fourth in the Junior Ladies event at the 2004 BMO Financial Group Championships, finished 14th in the short program and ninth in the free skate to place 12th overall.
